Bertram Hasenauer
(born 1970 in Saalfelden, Austria)

Bertram Hasenauer's portraits are not portrayals of real individuals. They seem familiar and alienated at the same time, it is left to the viewer to explore the expressions, gestures and persons. In the lively paintings presented at the Enter Art Fair, Bertram Hasenauer creates depicted persons from many thin layers of acrylic. In the dark lacquer works, on the other hand, Bertram Hasenauer uses various tools to dull the otherwise glossy black paint in certain areas, so that the light refracts differently in these spots. Only when the viewer stands in front of the painting at the right angle and the eyes have become accustomed to the black surface does the portrait appear like a fleeting memory. In the also dark gesso works at the Enter Art Fair, Bertram Hasenauer works the surface with a silverpoint, so that the polishing creates shiny and dull areas that reflect the light differently.

Bertram Hasenauer lives and works in Berlin, Germany.

From April 2 to July 23, 2023, the MEWO Kunsthalle Memmingen showed Bertram Hasenauer in a solo exhibition.
