"The reoccurring sunflowers in my work are a running metaphor. I am inspired by their lifecycle from a small insignificant seed, with the proper nurture and environment, grow to be the largest flowers in the garden. To me, it's a metaphor about hope and change. It's also why I depict myself with the sunflowers often. Because they are kind of a totem symbol for me about this hope and change. An ongoing reminder that I am still growing."

"In the shadow of hope. Hope is actually the name of the mountain painted in black in this series. I lived in the valley beneath Mt. Hope and had a garden there. So I literally lived in the shadow of hope"

"Pilgrim is referring to being a wanderer or traveler. Not necessarily in a religious context but more poetically traveling to an unknown place of significance either found within or in the outside world. A kind of searching."

"Out like a lamb refers to the saying about the month of March in which I painted the painting. They say "March comes in like a Lion and out like a lamb", meaning the end of March is sunny and calm instead of like the beginning of March where its often stormy and rainy."

Kyte Tatt, born in the United States in 1983, spent nearly a decade living in a van. It seems as if he conspired with nature, its wildness, beauty, and vitality during this formative period. This departure from conventional norms and lifestyles in favor of a free and nature-oriented existence remains a lasting theme in the work of the self-taught artist. Today, Kyte Tatt lives and works within the contemporary art scene of Berlin
